About the store
I've always enjoyed making my own classroom resources, and I'm finally getting around to sharing some of my best stuff with you. I am particularly passionate about evolution and genetics. For my masters degree, I researched how receptive students are to evolution and how much I "shifted the needle" in their acceptance of it as a valid explanation for life on Earth. In a small conservative town I have had outstanding success with students concluding that evolution is in fact real. I hope you and your students enjoy and learn from my materials as much as mine do!

Natural Selection Simulation: Giraffe Evolution | Dice, Coin & Graphing + Quiz

Forget dry lectures, readings, and videos! This hands-on activity gets students off of their screens and directly involved with the process of natural selection by simulating a changing environment putting pressure on a population of giraffes. Using coins, dice, and some simple to follow rules, students will model the random factor of mutations, and the non-random selection process. Quantitative Simulation & Data LiteracyThis isn't just a visual simulation—it's a math-integrated lab. Students

Natural Selection Simulation: Insect Camouflage Evolution | Dice & Coin Activity

Forget dry lectures, readings, and videos! This hands-on activity gets students off of their screens and directly involved with the process of natural selection by simulating a changing environment putting pressure on a population of mantises. Using coins, dice, and some simple to follow rules, students will model the random factor of mutations, and the non-random selection process. My students absolutely love this activity. You'd be amazed at how connected they get to an imaginary lineage of in

Experience

I've always enjoyed making my own classroom resources, and I'm finally getting around to sharing some of my best stuff with you. I am particularly passionate about evolution and genetics. For my masters degree, I researched how receptive students are to evolution and how much I "shifted the needle" in their acceptance of it as a valid explanation for life on Earth. In a small conservative town I have had outstanding success with students concluding that evolution is in fact real. I hope you and your students enjoy and learn from my materials as much as mine do!

Teaching style

Though I have high expectations for my students, my humor-based approach doesn't just make class fun—it has consistently led to a newfound and deepened passions for science as well as remarkable success stories.

Awards & shining teacher moments

To quote my assistant principal from just my second year teaching, "My daughter was never really interested in science until taking your class." In my masters research, my teaching of evolution "shifted the needle" the most in students that initially did not think evolution was real. You can do the same!

My own education history

Undergraduate: Secondary general science broadfield (MSU-Bozeman) Masters in Secondary Science Education (MSSE) (MSU-Bozeman)

Additional biographical information

I love cats, rock climbing, skiing, traveling, and food. I once took a 4-day weekend to Hawaii just to try and see Kilauea erupt (technically I did see lava, but nothing big). To me that is money well spent while I live in a cottage and drive a modest car to make this lifestyle possible. For my 40th birthday I did a reptile/insect handling party at a local vivarium store and invited friends and family. I'm kind of a nerd.
