About the store
I've always enjoyed making my own classroom resources, and I'm finally getting around to sharing some of my best stuff with you. I am particularly passionate about evolution and genetics. For my masters degree, I researched how receptive students are to evolution and how much I "shifted the needle" in their acceptance of it as a valid explanation for life on Earth. In a small conservative town I have had outstanding success with students concluding that evolution is in fact real. I hope you and your students enjoy and learn from my materials as much as mine do!

Inflatable Giant Scale Model Cell: STEM Organelle & Proportions Activity DIY

Your students will LOVE this hands-on scale modeling cell & organelles activity! Standard student built cell models are SO dated and tired. Most diagrams in textbooks and posters are also wildly inaccurate as far as scale sizes goes. One of my goals over the years is to incorporate mathematical, proportional, and scale size thinking into my lessons. Give your students a highly interactive hands-on scale model organelle building project that ends with them going inside of a giant cell for a cla

Experience

Teaching style

Though I have high expectations for my students, my humor-based approach doesn't just make class fun—it has consistently led to a newfound and deepened passions for science as well as remarkable success stories.

Awards & shining teacher moments

To quote my assistant principal from just my second year teaching, "My daughter was never really interested in science until taking your class." In my masters research, my teaching of evolution "shifted the needle" the most in students that initially did not think evolution was real. You can do the same!

My own education history

Undergraduate: Secondary general science broadfield (MSU-Bozeman) Masters in Secondary Science Education (MSSE) (MSU-Bozeman)

Additional biographical information

I love cats, rock climbing, skiing, traveling, and food. I once took a 4-day weekend to Hawaii just to try and see Kilauea erupt (technically I did see lava, but nothing big). To me that is money well spent while I live in a cottage and drive a modest car to make this lifestyle possible. For my 40th birthday I did a reptile/insect handling party at a local vivarium store and invited friends and family. I'm kind of a nerd.
