Experience

I have been working with students with special needs for the last ten years. I have worked with a variety of age groups from high school to pre-k to elementary in settings such as inclusion, resource, and self-contained. I have served as the Lead special education teacher and functioned as the department chair for Exceptional Student Services (ESS) in my school. Teaching style

My teaching style is very organized. I use a lot of technology such as a SMARTboard/ACTIVboard, iPads, netbooks, and personal computers. My students use a lot of manipulatives and hands-on activities. I tend to break concepts down into steps and simplify the process as much as possible so students can spend time learning, analyzing, and synthesizing material.

Additional biographical information

I began my teaching career as a high school math teacher. During my time in the high school setting, my school had a need for a special education math teacher and my certifications matched. I filled the role of math resource teacher for several years. Then there was a need in my county for a pre-k special education teacher during the middle of the year in my 8th year teaching. I made the transition to pre-k during Christmas break that year. From there, I moved to elementary for two years. I have now come full circle and am back to teaching my first love of high school math.
