Formal Lab Write Up Rubric

This is used to grade formal lab write ups in a Freshman or Sophomore Level Pre-AP/Honors science class. But could easily be tweaked to fit other class levels. I give the students a copy of this on a bright colored piece of paper to hold on to the entire year and then run copies when I have them complete and turn in a formal lab. I try to do this at least once per grading period.

I use this activity after State testing has been completed. The students all look up different Health Occupation jobs that are available and make a brochure that explains what the occupation does, what type of schooling you need to get that job, etc. We do 2 days in the computer lab for research and then give them a few days (depending on schedule) to get it completed. On the due date, students turn it in, I look over it and the next day we have a quiz over the information. You could also have

I made these my 2nd year of teaching and am still using them 4 years later! I type in the names at the beginning of every year, edit when needed, and print out a new sheet for each unit we complete. At the end of the grading period, I will staple all of the sheets together and keep in either a filing cabinet or a binder for the year - just in case. I definitely need to have a paper copy to write grades on, and if your school doesn't issue laptops to you, this makes grading on the go so much easi

Questions that go along with a Meerkat Video - link is available at the top of the question page. Another activity I have done after state testing. With the link on the page, it is also very easy for students to complete if they have been absent!

Questions you can use at the close of class, a topic, or unit. You can do it three different ways: 1. Pass out the cards randomly to students and have them answer the questions out loud or on a piece of paper to turn in. 2. Have students draw a card from you, read the question and answer. 3. Make several copies of the question pages, and have students come up and randomly select questions when they have completed an assignment.

I use this concept diagram in my GT classes - I make them fill it out a few times over the course of a unit on specific topics and use it to see how their knowledge of a topic changes during that unit.

I use these around my room for when we do stations. I print off two sets on cardstock and get them laminated. So I'll have 2 Station 1's, 2 Station 2's, etc. Makes group work so easy and organized!

My teaching style is very student oriented, with a lot of hands on activities and inquiry based lessons.

My own education history

I have a BS in Psychology and an M.Ed in Elementary Education from Texas State University.

Additional biographical information

I grew up in Houston, Texas and went to college in San Marcos, where I met my husband. We got married in 2012 and relocated to Pennsylvania in April of 2015. About 5 weeks later we welcomed our baby girl into the family, Madelyn. We also have a cocker spaniel named Charlie that we adore! I love being in the classroom but teaching jobs are very hard to get in Western PA, so I thought I could at least try to help some teachers out by sharing my lessons! I hope you find what you need and if you have questions, please feel free to message me!
