Experience

I am a board-certified neurologist and medical educator with extensive experience teaching learners across all levels—from undergraduate students to medical students and residents. I currently serve as a Clinical Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Texas Dell Medical School and as the Neurology Clerkship Director, where I design and oversee clinical education for medical students. This combination of clinical, educational, and technical experience informs the practical, high-yield resources I create for learners.

Teaching style

My teaching philosophy centers on clarity, structure, and meaningful understanding rather than memorization alone. I focus on breaking down complex topics—especially in neuroscience and medicine—into intuitive frameworks that learners can retain and apply. I emphasize: Clear visual organization of information Stepwise reasoning and clinical relevance Integration of basic science with real-world application High-yield concepts tailored for exams and long-term retention I also believe learning should feel engaging and purposeful. Many of my materials incorporate storytelling, pattern recognition, and conceptual “anchors” to help learners build deeper understanding rather than relying on rote memorization.

Awards & shining teacher moments

Teaching and mentorship have been central to my career, and I have been fortunate to receive recognition from both students and institutions for this work. Highlights include: Distinguished Teaching Professor, University of Texas System Golden Apple Teaching Award (resident-nominated) Multiple Clinical Learning Environment Awards for excellence in teaching Induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society for compassionate, student-centered care “Eyes of Texas” Excellence Award for mentorship and service

My own education history

I earned my M.D. from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and completed my neurology residency through the U.S. Navy at the National Capital Consortium in Bethesda, Maryland. Prior to medical school, I graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Letters from the University of Oklahoma, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary studies across the humanities and sciences. I am board-certified in Neurology and subspecialty-certified in Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry, reflecting my focus on cognition, memory, and brain-behavior relationships.

Additional biographical information

Beyond my clinical and academic work, I am deeply interested in the intersection of education, technology, and human understanding. I have developed educational tools ranging from medical curricula to digital platforms and applications designed to improve learning and access to knowledge. I also serve as a mentor and program director for undergraduate and pre-health students, helping guide the next generation of healthcare professionals. Through my work with Sparebrain, I aim to create clear, thoughtfully designed educational resources that help learners make sense of complex material—whether they are students, educators, or lifelong learners.
