About the store
I have been teaching special education for over 20 years and specialize in autism. I have taught students with a wide range of disabilities and special needs in various public school districts and specialty schools with students ranging from age five through adulthood. I have taught both integrated as well as many self-contained classrooms. I have assisted in the mainstreaming of students with autism who have behavior difficulties into the public school environment. I have spent years modifying various grade level curriculums as well as developing new curriculum to meet the needs of individual student programs. These have included language, community and vocational skills, functional academics and activities of daily living. I use the methods of Applied Behavioral Analysis and believe in taking data. I have written and implemented many behavior plans for students with various behavioral difficulties. I also conduct staff training as well.

Teaching style

I believe in hands-on, student centered learning. Lessons should contain visual, auditory, and hands-on components as much as possible. Teachers must step back to allow students to take initiative and problem solve in order to become independent and confident. I believe parents are a vital part of the child's educational team and a child should learn to be his/her own best advocate.
