About the store

Experience

With over 10 years of experience teaching in self-contained special education classrooms, I have worked with students who require intensive academic, behavioral, and functional support. My background includes designing individualized instruction, implementing IEP goals, creating structured classroom systems, and developing meaningful, hands-on learning experiences. Every resource in SPEDthread is classroom-tested and created from real-life experience serving students with diverse and complex needs.

Teaching style

My teaching style centers on hands-on, highly structured, and picture-based learning. I believe students learn best when instruction is visual, interactive, and broken into clear, manageable steps. I use real-world applications, task analysis, visual supports, and repetition to build independence and confidence. My resources are designed to reduce overwhelm, increase engagement, and provide meaningful access for learners who benefit from visual and concrete instruction.

Awards & shining teacher moments

My greatest accomplishments are not trophies, they are student breakthroughs. Watching a nonverbal student use visuals independently, seeing a child master a life skill after weeks of practice, or helping families feel supported and understood are the moments that define my career. I am proud of the growth my students make academically, socially, and functionally, and those successes inspire every resource I create.

My own education history

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Purdue University and my Master of Arts in Intense Intervention Special Education from Ball State University. I also completed my license add-on for Director of Exceptional Learners through Ball State University. My educational background combines foundational elementary pedagogy with advanced training in intensive and specialized supports.

Additional biographical information

I am not only a special education teacher, I am also a proud mother of three boys. Parenting and teaching have deeply shaped my perspective on patience, flexibility, and the importance of meeting children where they are. My goal with SPEDthread is to create practical, ready-to-use resources that save teachers time while truly supporting students with significant needs. Everything I design comes from lived classroom experience, thoughtful training, and a heart for exceptional learners.
