A sunflower is the globally recognized symbol for hidden disabilities. Many individuals wear a green lanyard with sunflowers to indicate that they are disabled, even though they might not look like it on the outside.
I am a new speech-language pathologist and I have multiple hidden disabilities, including Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), Peripheral Neuropathy, and Ehler-Danlos Syndrome. This is not an easy job for someone with a disability. I am adjusting to switching from elementary to high school as it is somewhat more accessible. This is not a choice I would have made if I wasn't disabled, but I have to listen to my body and adjust (like many of our students). I like collecting and making resources and I hope to connect with other disabled professionals or with disability advocates in the schools.
