Before we ever get to the "real work," I always start with the person in front of me.
How was your day? What's going on this week? Did something happen? If a student walks in carrying something heavy, we take a moment - because a child who feels seen and safe is a child who's actually ready to learn. That's always been my north star.
This people-first approach is rooted in my background in psychology. Before SLP, I studied psych, worked in research labs, and spent time in mental health and community support. That foundation gave me a deep understanding of how emotional safety and trust are the foundation of everything - especially for kids doing hard, vulnerable work like communication therapy.
But there's another side to how I work too: I'm a researcher and a creator at heart. I approach every resource with an evidence-based lens, and I bring a genuine love of art and design to everything I make - drawing and watercolour painting were my first loves before SLP found me! That creative drive is what makes these resources feel different. They're not just clinically sound - they're engaging, visual, and fun to use.
Person first. Evidence always. A little creativity wherever possible.
