Hello! Thank you for visiting my store! My name is Rose Kesting. I am an ASHA-certified, New Jersey-licensed speech-language pathologist. I have been practicing since 1994, in a variety of settings including public and private schools and clinics, with children ranging from pre-k to grade 12. Currently, I work full-time in a private school for students ages 8-18 with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities. We are one of the only Orton-Gillingham accredited schools in the United States.
I have been blogging since 2011 about all things related to food and speech/language therapy at www.speechsnacks.com. I have combined my passion for my profession with my love of cooking and nutrition to create fun, engaging speech-language therapy materials.
Additionally, I created ©Language Chef, a comprehensive, language-rich resource that uses FULL-COLOR photo visuals and recipes that have been tested in my kitchen and therapy room. You can find the extensive collection of Language Chef resources here in my TpT store. Many of the recipes are inspired by the blog posts that I have written over the years at “Cooking Up Good Speech with a Side of Speech Snacks” www.speechsnacks.com
In March of 2024, I put my cooking-themed therapy ideas into practice and opened The Kidz Kitchen of NJ--Where Cooking and Communication Go Hand in Hand. My business offers IN-PERSON COOKING CLASSES for children ages8-16 and is a place to learn how to cook, create, communicate, and collaborate. Journal It, Picture It, Record It: Speech Carryover for older students
Like many adults, many kids are attached to their technology. While I’m not advocating that you encourage your students to text obsessively and spend hours on their portable devices, I do believe that it can be an effective way of getting them to make a conscious effort to monitor their speech in situations OUTSIDE the therapy setting. You would be amazed at the level of interest students take in getting a school-based assignment completed when it involves using their own personal devices!!
