About the store
I began teaching in December of 2002. Teaching 4th grade presented many challenges for me as a new teacher. Each day was an adventure and a learning experience. After a short time, I began teaching 3rd grade. I loved 3rd grade! The students were developing their personalities and sense of humor. Later, I was approached by a co-worker to move to 1st grade (I thought she was crazy). I was so apprehensive about giving 1st grade a whirl. It was the best decision to date! I have been teaching 1st grade for seven years. I am currently teaching at a magnet school. Teaching is so rewarding as I get to share in the children's joys and excitement for learning.

Teaching style

Teaching for me is about sharing experiences and cultivating thinkers as well as problem solvers. Each day is a gift and watching the whole child mature through thinking and working with others is extremely fascinating. As I teach, encouraging children to think for themselves and fostering their communication skills has proven to be successful in my classroom. Each student is asked to share daily with their peers via talking, writing, or working together.

Building Level Teacher of the Year

My own education history

I attended a small public school in southern Arkansas Kindergarten- Twelfth grade. Those memories are so precious to me. After graduating, I attended Louisiana Tech and Southern Arkansas University where I obtained my Bachelors degree in Education.
