Teacher/Students read Freight Train by Donald Crews and focus on the sequential order of the train. Students color the trains on the sheet according to the text and cut them out. They glue their train pieces onto construction paper in sequential order. Can be used for a whole group lesson, independent activity, or book buddies.

Students read a nonfiction article and use this form to study the text features. They choose 5 features not included in the article that they feel would enhance the reader's comprehension. Then they recreate the article adding their chosen text features.

This witch story map can be used with any Halloween or witch story. Copy on white paper for your students to complete, color, cut, and assemble with glue or brads (to make movable parts). There are a few different options for the body of the witch. Use one, or staple them on top of each other.

Students can use this 2-page, 6 question form for an I.L.A. (Independent Literacy Activity) for any fiction text. It can also be used when listening to books on tape/computer. Some of the questions include predictions, connections, and background knowledge.
