Experience

I taught 6h grade math and science in the Delaware (OH) City Schools for 35 years, retiring in 2007. I have run my elementary STEM consulting service since 1998. I have conducted dozens of workshops, seminars and college level courses with hundreds of elementary educators on integrating STEM into the elementary curriculum. My website, www.stemiselementary.com, contains free integrated standards-based lessons, materials, events and professional development opportunities related to elementary STEM. I also offer an online elementary STEM graduate level course and a free monthly elementary STEM newsletter.

Teaching style

I strongly believe in a hands-on, minds-on approach that integrates elementary standards with activities that involve problem solving and creative thinking.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been honored with several awards and recognitions from both the Ohio and the International Technology and Engineering Educators Associations. I have served as the president of the ITEEA's Children's Council which promotes elementary STEM in grades K-6 on a national level, and am currently serving on the ITEEA's board of directors on behalf of the Children's Council. I am most pleased with the positive feedback I have received from so many educators about my seminars and resources.

My own education history

Graduated Kent State University, 1971 with a B.S. in elementary education. Graduated The Ohio State University in 1980 with a M.Ed degree in early and middle childhood, with a strength in math and science.
