I was a science/math block teacher in 6th, 7th and 8th grade for 10 years.
I currently teach Science and PLTW's middle school curriculum called Gateway to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.
In this product you get both a simple safety presentation, with worksheet and answer key, to use in your robotics class. You also get an introduction to the basics of the structure and electronics parts. These are Google Slides which you can copy and modify, and Google Docs that you can assign to students digitally, or print out. (I have recently made some updates to the parts presentation to include some of the new VEX parts)
This is a 5 day a week Bell Work for VEX Robotics V5 (VEXcode) platform. Each Bell work covers one week (18 total), is editable, and has all the answers in the notes section of the Google Sheets presentation. These are intended for an introductory course where students have no background information. Students start with building mechanisms and devices, then move into programming them using VEXcode.
This is an EDITABLE and simple 5 category quiz game for VEX Robotics parts. All the answers and images are included. This is a Google Slideshow with all of the links already inserted and ready to play.
This is a programming activity intended for after students have built the basic Testbed. I provide students with a picture and an example one, and cut them loose, so I don't have specific build instructions. Once the Testbed is built, I have students walk through the basics of how to set up VEXcode and then how to set up individual code sets for different tasks. There are 9 total tasks for students to complete. Each task has directions and a video of how it should work. There is a stu
This lesson plan includes an introduction to torque and speed and how they will relate in the building of a VEX robot tractor. There are detailed instructions for starting a program in VEXCode V5 (very similar to EXP). Any kind of VEX parts can be used for the build.
This is a final project for my CSI forensics introduction class. The crime is laid out in a Google Slideshow with all the clues students need to solve the crime. I have included a YouTube playlist where I go through each section of the crime for students. You also get an official looking CSI Report Form for students to fill in their answers and observations (as well as the answer key).
This is a full unit for atmosphere and weather. There is an editable Google Slides presentation, guided notes for each section (with answer keys), an instructional video for each section, and individual practice worksheets for each section.
This lesson discusses the importance of observations, the difference between observation and perception, the kinds of evidence and personnel at a crime scene, and what crime scene evidence can do for an investigation. This is a Google Slides/PowerPoint presentation, guided notes, open notes, and Instructional video for the lesson.
This lesson set contains 5 lessons that will teach your students how to do basic things in scratch. L1 Looks and Events - Students will learn how to control sprites with events and change their basic looks. Students will walk through the directions on the cat, and then will create their own blocks for the rabbit. L2 Motion - Students will learn how to control the movement of sprites with events and changing the X and Y of the sprite. L3 Loops - Students will learn how to create repeating ac
Do you want to teach your middle or high school, students some Arduino code skills and have them make a simple robot? This is the bundle for you. This product is designed for grades 8 and up. It goes with the BOE Bots from SimplyTronic, but Arduino BOE Bots from other sources will work too. BOE Bots are inexpensive robotics kits that make robotics accessible to everyone. They are easy to build and use an Arduino Uno to control the robot. In this bundle you will get 6 lessons - each will be multi
The idea of the breakout room is so much fun! I like the hybrid kind where I don't need as many locks or physical pieces. In this breakout room students use a Google Form to save their codes and progress. The form is set up so that they can not move on without solving the previous puzzle. This Breakout room is all about CELLS, their basic structure and function. I used it as a final fun activity before the test. I used Morse Code in this one. I find that with middle schoolers, multiple codes con
This is a complete unit starter kit with a student work packet (both as a Google Presentation and a PDF), teacher presentation (Google Presentation with animations, video links, and other content links), and follow up worksheets, with answer keys. This covers Dominant/Recessive, Incomplete Dominance, and Codominance. We also cover Meiosis, DNA, and Nucleotide bases.
