STEM does not have to be complicated, sometimes the simplest experiments created the most meaningful learning.
Students will explore and understand the concept of hardness as a mechanical property of matter. They will follow a simple test procedure to determine the hardness property of a phone screen protector using common household objects. They will reflect on their findings and answer critical thinking questions.
Students will explore and understand the concept of Tensile Strength as a mechanical property of matter. They will follow a simple test procedure to determine the tensile strength of various types of grocery bags. They will reflect on their findings and answer critical thinking questions.
Students will explore and understand the concept of Compression as a mechanical property of matter. They will follow a simple Compression test procedure to determine the compressibility of a variety of common objects. They will reflect on their findings and answer critical thinking questions.
Students will explore and understand the concept of Softness/Firmness as a mechanical property of matter. They will follow a simple Impact test procedure to determine the softness/firmness of a piece of foam. They will reflect on their findings and answer critical thinking questions.

I started my professional career as a Mechanical Engineer, and after 10 years in the industry, I discovered my love of teaching and pursued my teaching license. I specialize in the STEM related programs in education.
