I have been teaching for 26 years. I have spent over 10 of those years teaching 4th grade. I currently teach 6th grade Science with an Emphasis in STEM Education.
Students can practice their 2 by 2 digit multiplication through this game. Each page has 4 cards: one contains the original problem, one has the area model completed, one has the partial product written out, and the final one has the answer. Students must race to find their 2 matching partners and then find their answer card somewhere in the classroom.
This quick assessment can be used as a pre and post test for the 4th grade Common Core Language standard L.4.1. Students must use the relative pronouns and adverbs in the word box to fit each sentence correctly.
Lower Elementary students will use what they have learned about inventions from Ancient China to do a STEM project. They will use the STEM Challenge in a Box concept and the Engineering Design Process to recreate one of the inventions from Ancient China. Students will also create a trading card poster about their invention and take a mini-quiz at the end of the project. Helpful websites are also included in the lesson.
Students will explore math and science measurement tools through hands-on centers. The tools featured in this product are...
balances,
graduated cylinders,
rulers (including the yardstick and meter stick),
spring scales, and
thermometers.
In this activity, students will read small informational text pages about each tool and then complete activities, such as how many grams does 10 buttons weight on a scale? Students will also have to draw what the measurement tools look like.
There are two
Students can use this activity in a variety of ways to practice the concepts of factors, multiples, and prime and composite numbers. Students can use this as task cards in an independent center or it can be a class game where students work in teams to find the fib and be the first to show their answer.
In this project, students will work in groups to create a colony for another planet or moon in our solar system. Students will use the steps of the Engineering Design Process to design, create, and build their colonies. Students are also expected to create a presentation in order to "sell" their classmates on buying one of the spots in their space colony. The last page has the teacher instructions for this project.
Students will use the internet to visit one of the counties in Arizona. They will create maps, a souvenir from that county, and figure out how much it would cost to visit that county for a week. They will write journal entries about their trip and create a postcard for someone about their visit.
Students can use the 2 different sets of prime and composite numbers to separate into 2 columns. They can then write their answers on the recording sheet to turn in. This can be used as a partner activity or task cards center for reinforcement of the standard.
In this project, your students will work in groups to create 3D models of artifacts they found in a cave once inhabited by some of the earliest humans. They will create a presentation about their artifacts they found and what the petroglyphs found by the artifacts mean.
This book report about a fictional book meets many Common Core ELA reading standards. I have set it up so that most students can do what is required would fall in the meets category and students who like to go above and beyond can get extra credit by following the exceeds category.
There is a sample instruction page attached because my school uses the Accelerated Reading program and taking an AR test is a part of their requirements.
Fourth grade students will have to create their own sentences using the verb tenses listed to show mastery of this standard. This test is able to be reused until students can master the standard.
