This lab is perfect for students interested in learning more about the soil around them and how it interacts in different ways with water and plants depending on the amounts of different sediments inside them. students will be able to see the percentages of sand, silt, and clay in the soils of their own homes or farmland.
Students in this activity will feast their “ice” on the importance of insulators, conductors and how they keeps cold matter cool and hot matter warm or vice versa. Children participating in this lab will learn about the correlation between the speed of an object’s molecules and that objects temperature while getting to test different types of insulation, designing, and constructing a container of their own that minimizes the transfer of thermal energy.
