Students are challenged with first getting to Mars, and then build a colony on Mars. Students work in groups to go through the engineering design process to create a Mars lander, a spacesuit and then a colony that livable on Mars. Includes a video link on a Mars rover.

Using the story Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beatty, students will go through the Engineering Design Process to recreate a model of a famous building. Comes with a beginner version and an advanced option. Link is provided for an online version of the book if needed.

Challenge your students to create a balloon zip line using the engineering design process. Includes a video with instruction if students get stuck. Materials (for each group of 2) 2 balloons (1 for each person) 1 straw Tape String Scissors Rules: You must use all of the materials You may not use any other materials You can tie the string to things you find in your classroom.

Using the Engineering Design Process, students work in groups to create a bucket tower to hold pennies. Groups are challenge to see who can build the design that can hold the most pennies. The lesson plan guides students through each step of the process but leaves the final design up to the students to create.
