Energy In Buildings Space Heating Cooling Systems Powerpoint STEM STEAM

Students will learn how heating and cooling loads work within a building and associated energy consumption. Because buildings are the largest consumers of energy in the United States, they will learn about the various systems, both passive and active, which allow a building to operate and function. It will show them efficient and inefficient models for operating necessary systems within a building. This lecture is aligned and in sync with industry standards and prepare the students for entry lev

Site Plan Architecture Engineering PowerPoint Lecture STEM STEAM

Introduction to Site Plans In this PowerPoint lecture it will cover all the components of a site plan, what must be included, how to create one, and how to read one. i.e. What does this symbol represent again class? (As I point to the symbol of a tree) The class response should be, Tree) i.e. After we discuss proper tree symbols. (What type of lines do we use class to represent a manipulated or altered topo/contour line? And the class would answer a solid line)

California Water Infrastructure Lecture Powerpoint Earth Science Conservation

This PowerPoint will give an overview of the Colorado River aqueduct and briefly discuss the State Water Project. There are two important reasons we should know where our water comes from. One, because most of the energy expended in California goes towards operating pumping stations which sends us our water, as the water must be lifted over mountains and travel hundreds of miles. The second reason, is because with an ever-growing population and a limited supply of water, in time that water suppl

Building Materials Used for Structural Systems Concrete Powerpoint STEM STEAM

Lecture In this lecture students will be introduced to Concrete and reinforced steel which is utilized with concrete as a structural system. Project the slides to the class found in the resource section to complete this lecture activity.  Concrete is a mixture of aggregates (sand and gravel) held together by a paste made from portland cement and water. The paste fills the spaces between the aggregates, and after being placed, the concrete cures or hardens to form solid material. Th

Building Materials Used for Structural Systems Steel Powerpoint STEM STEAM

Lecture In this lecture students will be introduced to Steel as a structural system.  Project the slides to the class found in the resource section to complete this lecture activity.  Structural steel is one of the most important structural materials used in buildings. Its widespread use can be attributed to its desirable properties, its availability, and its generally competitive price.Structural ComponentsSome of its desirable qualities include:     -   Great strength and sti

Lecture In this lecture students will be introduced to wood (timber) as a structural system. Project the slides to the class found in the resource section to complete this lecture activity.  Wood is the handiest and most accommodating of all construction materials. It is available almost everywhere, readily transported, and easily worked with simple carpenters' tools. Basic Elements of Architectural Design and Building Systems Lecture STEM STEAM

In this lecture students will be introduced to a basic fundamental principal of design, that of firmness. Physical structure, that is, the “bones” of the building that do the work, and the perceptual structure, or what we see. A column may be much larger than structurally necessary in an engineering sense simply to reassure us that it is indeed big enough for its job. This presentation covers Basic elements of architectural design. Included are slides about: FoundationSoil Bearing Capacity
