About the store
I created most of my viewing guides while home on maternity leave. They are designed strictly as on task activities NOT higher level thinking. I have some additional assignments posted, but please take this into consideration when downloading a viewing guide. I only make 30 cents each off them, but I am learning a lot and will have them ready for me to go back the classroom. =)
After teaching Middle School for 6 years, I am took a break to teach Job Corps students resume skills, employment skills and preparing them for their driving tests.
In Middle School:
I taught US HISTORY and Government for 6 years to 8th graders.
I also taught one year of WORLD GEOGRAPHY to 6th graders.
5 of those years I also taught at least one READING ENRICHMENT class.
Now, I am a stay at home mom working only part time doing Title 1 tutoring. I currently tutor students from grade 1-9 in Reading and Math near Tampa Florida.

You should read the guide with the class prior to viewing the video to make sure students know what to look for.

Underground Railroad Video guide from History Channel
My students love this video. They run around for a week afterwards singing the drinking gourd song.

Dred Scott Life Travel Mapping Activity
This is a chronology of Dred Scott's life. I had students draw on the locations of his movements on dry erase outline maps of the US. It is a short activity, taking about 20 minutes or so for my 8th graders, but it really helped them to understand how his life movement caused his court case. You could do this with regular paper copies as well. THIS DOES NOT COME WITH AN OUTLINE MAP--I can't provide because it would violate copyright. You can use with any US outline map.

Creating America Citizenship brochure project homework assignment
We used the Creating America Textbook for this assignment. You can probably use it with any other textbook, but the page numbers are for that book. Kids really enjoyed making this assignment.

Activity to be used with US Road Map
Students often don't understand the interstate systems of the US. This can assignment can be used with any Road Atlas map of the United States (I had a bunch donated to the school) Students find their way around the country to different National Parks and figure distances using scale. Great introduction to map reading.

African American History Timeline Internet sheet
This activity takes one period and uses a website from Scholastic that has a timeline of African American History. It is a good "refresher" activity as well as covering some key information about African American History. Great for those in a tested area, who can't spend a week on AA history month. History Channel Louisiana Purchase Video Viewing Guide 2003
My viewing guides are designed only as TASK TOOLS. They provide BASIC questions every few minutes to keep students watching the video. I do not include HOT questions because your use for the video may not be the same as mine. Each state has different curriculum goals and standards that students must meet. I only create these to give teachers a little less work to do. I suggest reading through the questions with your class before beginning the video.

Designed as a guide to keep students watching the video. No HOT questions, because I do not know what part of the learning process you are incorporating its use into instruction. I would like to point out that at 50 minutes into the video, they show a Gutenburg press being used. My students gathered a deeper understanding of the press from the video. Found on streaming Netflix. This guide is tool for keeping students on task. This is NOT higher level thinking, it is designed for quick answers to keep kids from going to sleep or doing things other than watching. I highly recommend that you read this guide aloud with students before viewing. I DO NOT write Open Response Questions for videos because I do NOT know your objective for them watching the films. Maryland Driver's license study guide
A page by page questionaire for the Maryland state driver's license test. This test is designed for students with poor study skills to use with the MARYLAND Driver's Handbook. Teaching style
My middle school career was spent at one school with a diverse population. Nearly 70% at risk students. 46% African American, 42% white, and remaining population consisted mostly ELL students.
I believe that students learn best though receving information in several forms. A typical class day for me would include:
1. Sponge or warm up activity
2. Information gathering- through text, PowerPoint, or some other information source.
3. Completing an activity to futher understanding of the content learned.
4. Assessment- sometimes 3 and 4 are combined.
I believe that ALL KIDS CAN LEARN!

I post occasionally since I still enjoy watching documentaries. If you have an issue with one of my documents, please message me the exact problem and I will fix it. Some of my video guides are as much as 5 years old, so if you aren't exact, then it would require me to watch the entire video again. That probably won't happen anytime soon because I keep a full schedule with two little people at home. I will certainly fix anything pointed out to me. (Copy and paste the error will work.)
