Fiddle Tune or Phony? A FUN Musical Guessing Game

Traditional fiddle tunes have some of the most wonderfully bizarre names in all of music. We're talking Shove That Pig's Foot a Little Further in the Fire, Granny Will Your Dog Bite, and Squirrel Headed Woman — and those are REAL.Here's the game: Your teacher reads a tune title. You decide — is it a REAL traditional fiddle tune from old-time, Texas style, or bluegrass tradition, or did someone completely make it up? There is no trick to figure it out. It's pure guessing — and that's exactly what

About the store

Experience

I've been teaching orchestra, strings, and general music for over 25 years — in school ensembles, private studios, and teacher-training programs at the national level. I create resources rooted in real classroom experience: games, composition projects, fiddle tunes, and cross-curricular activities designed to get students curious, creative, and making music from day one.

Teaching style

My teaching draws from a rich blend of methodologies — Bornoff, Suzuki, Orff Schulwerk, Dalcroze Eurhythmics, Music Mind Games, World Music Drumming, and fiddle traditions. I've spent years studying and applying these approaches in orchestra classrooms, private lessons, and teacher-training settings, and that cross-pollination is at the heart of everything I make. I'm also a creative problem-solver at heart: I invented the Stringlights Music™ magnetic fingerboard maps when I couldn't find the teaching tool I needed, and that same instinct drives everything I bring to the classroom and to this store.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I'm an active clinician and presenter at string education institutes, workshops, and summer camps, and I consult on curriculum and program development. I've held music education leadership roles in PK-12 settings, ASTA chapter, and as a teacher-trainer/clinician across a range of professional development settings. I've toured nationally and internationally with student musicians, and my own performance experience spans Suzuki, classical, contest-style fiddle, movement, and professional musical theater — a mix that keeps my teaching creative, playful, and prioritizes discovery, curiosity, and creating memorable experiences.

My own education history

BM in Music from The Catholic University of America; MM in Music Education with an emphasis in string pedagogy from the University of Maryland. I'm a lifelong learner — always reading, experimenting, and refining my practice.
