I typically give a pre-assessment before I teach math standards. This enables me to group my kids into small groups. Depending on the pre-assessment I will have my class divided into flexible two-three small groups. I definitely teach my kids how to be independent while I'm working with a different small group. In response to what I teach that that day in each group my students may have different math homework. Each child is working at their own proficiency level and I have to teach where they are. I don't believe most curriculum's can provide the differentiation that is needed for my kind of classroom so I create my own!
