Experience
I have 26 years of educational experience, ranging from 6th through 12th grade in Texas classrooms.
Teaching style
I believe that students learn best in a safe and comfortable environment. I also believe that to achieve that environment students need routine, structure, encouragement, and consistency. To facilitate this I like to use the Gradual Release of Responsibility (GRR) model of teaching. This is also called the "I do, we do, you do" method.
Awards & shining teacher moments
In my teaching career I have twice been awarded teacher of the year at my respective schools, have received an outstanding educator award, and the super show award when I was teaching art.
My own education history
I hold a bachelor's degree in English from Texas A&M University as well as a master's degree, also in English, from Tarleton State University. I hold current teacher certification in the state of Texas in several areas: Grades 1-8 self contained (any subject), all level (grades 1-12) ESL (English as a Second Language), secondary (grades 6-12) art, and secondary (grades 6-12) English.
Additional biographical information
In addition to being a teacher, I am a wife, mom, stepmom, pet mom, artist, fossil hunter, traveler, gardener, canner, baker, jewelry maker, and (most recently) a digital designer.
