After listening to the book "Thanksgiving at the Tappletons" written by Eileen Spinelli, students will rewrite the story using the template pages included. Their book will be based on a fiction account of their own family Thanksgiving. The funnier they make their stories, the better they will be. Each page will be illustrated by students using their own drawings. (Or they can use the clip art included.)

A fun way to use a secret decoder. There are 21 pages plus the secret decoder using words in these categories: fruits, vegetables, colors, zoo animals, school supplies, common foods, and technology.
Each of the 7 puzzle pages has three different parts:
The A puzzles use the decoder to simply figure out the common words in each category
The B puzzles use the decoder to find the scrambled version of word, using the word bank at the bottom of the pages.

Give students a chance to try their hand at creating their own word search puzzle. They can use the given list of Thanksgiving words, or make up their own list. They should write each word that they want to use on the top lines, and then add it to their puzzle until they have 15 words in the puzzle. Then they can fill all the empty squares with miscellaneous letters. For fun they can exchange papers and work out each other's puzzles.
Spark a child's interest in reading during the summer with this Summer Reading Card. Great project for home or school. First page is instructions - Pick out a square to work on, gather materials needed and read for 20 minutes or more. Then fill in the correct square. It may be helpful to set a goal (fill in one square per day).
