Each student is given a blank ice cream scoop to decorate with their name. For every 5 books your student reads, they will move up their ice cream scoop accordingly to the cone representing their accomplishments. Highlight classwork to make everyone shine using a "jar of fireflies" that your students personalize with their name and coloring. This is one you can use all year if you choose. You may want to use it at the beginning of school to help your students know they have come to the right room-let them color a firefly at "Open House", they can easily find it on that first day of class. Or, you can use it at the end of the year as your students are "shining and flying away" to the next grade!
