This activity is designed to extend students' understanding of different types of patterns (numerical, alphabetical, & geometric). The activity is intended for students to work in cooperative pairs and design their own original pattern for their fellow classmates to solve. I always use this activity prior to Back-To-School Night and have them on display in my classroom. The students love the idea of challenging their parents and the parents have fun finding their children's work and attempt

About the store

Experience

I have been a middle school mathematics teacher for over 12 years. During that time I have developed many innovative and original assessment tools. Some of these tools are designed to be in-class activities, whereas others were created to be completed over a series of time.

Teaching style

I believe in using technology and authentic examples when teaching mathematical concepts. I also find ways to incorporate multimedia and comedy to help explain topics and make math more fun. My students tend to like my pop-culture references and metaphors. I think you will too.

My own education history

I have an undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Maryland. After working in radio for a year, I decided to go back for my teaching certification at Ramapo College of New Jersey. After working for as a teacher, I earned a master's degree in school administration and supervision from New Jersey City University.

Additional biographical information

I currently reside in Northern New Jersey minutes away from NYC. I am an avid sports fan and always find ways to reference sports and its connection to mathematics to my students. I enjoy spending my time with my wife, twin daughters, and our goldendoodle.
