This activity is designed to extend students' understanding of different types of patterns (numerical, alphabetical, & geometric). The activity is intended for students to work in cooperative pairs and design their own original pattern for their fellow classmates to solve. I always use this activity prior to Back-To-School Night and have them on display in my classroom. This activity is designed to provide students with the real-world scenario of dining out. By practicing their operating skills with decimals, your students will gain a better understanding and appreciation of the true costs ( subtotal, tax, tip, etc.) associated with eating a meal at a restaurant.

Hold your students accountable by having their parents/guardians (you know, the ones they're really afraid of) acknowledge how they performed on any math assessment. The document contains three cuttable exit slips.
