About the store
My 35 years of urban, K-8 classroom teaching experience also includes serving as the computer lab teacher in both an elementary and middle school setting. I focused primarily on English language arts anchor standards while immersing students in coding and a variety of project-based or research learning. Additionally, my middle school experience focused on 6th grade ELA, world history, and creative writing. I have worked with every sub-category of student groups: SPED, GATE, international students, restorative justice, multicultural, and created effective interventions for students who read below grade level.

Experience

My 35 years of urban, K-8 classroom teaching experience also includes serving as the computer lab teacher in both an elementary and middle school setting. I focused primarily on English language arts anchor standards while immersing students in coding and a variety of project-based or research learning. Additionally, my middle school experience focused on 6th grade ELA, world history, and creative writing. I have worked with every sub-category of student groups: SPED, GATE, international students, restorative justice, multicultural, and created effective interventions for students who read below grade level.

Teaching style

I prefer an interactive model vs. the "sage on the stage" model. I expect students to interact throughout each lesson. I keep my direct teaching within 12 minutes before shifting to group practice, individual, and small group intervention/enrichment. I prefer to use student choice to guide instruction while embedding the state standards. I practice consistent long term and short term with students that embrace everyday life goals alongside academic goals. By the end of the year, I hope students leave my class with a holistic experience that includes a set of tools that will help them navigate life and at least complete high school with a sense of confidence and curiosity about their personal future.
