Sunbeam Layne

I have been teaching for 20+ years in Northwest Indiana just outside of Chicago. I work in a community with a very low socio-economic status and the majority of our students have high trauma backgrounds. I have taught K-3 with the majority of my time spent in 2nd grade and most recently 1st grade.

Many of our children come to school for stability and love so building relationships is very important in my classroom. I believe that children learn best when they feel safe and valued in the classroom. I have a great interest in brain trauma and Restorative Practices and have witnessed the differences the implementation makes in my classroom. I teach with love and laughter and strive to promote a growth mindset in all students I interact with.

I have served on many committees in my district and have helped bring new and innovative technology and Restorative Practices to our community of learners.

I earned my B.S. at Ball State University in Muncie, IN. I have taken many graduate classes and look forward to pursuing an M.A. in Educational Technology.
