I used this resource to teach making inferences within Esperanza Rising. This only covers the first few chapters of the text.

Forge by Laurie Halse Anderson This PARCC-like activity asks students to pick the best descriptor that contrasts the reactions of Eben and Curzon to the British defeat. They then have to choose the best piece of text evidence to support the descriptor that they chose. This is set up very PARCC-like with Part A and Part B questioning strategies. I used this to practice making inferences from Esperanza Rising. The specific task they were asked to do was to make inferences based on how various characters are responding to challenges using text evidence. This was done as a whole group activity to practice our skills. There are two pages technically to the document but the second page is blank.
