Practice two syllable words with one middle consonant with this fun soccer game. These can be challenging, since the first syllable can be either open and long (60%), or closed and short (40%). A strategy is to first try the long vowel sound to see if it is a recognizable word. If it is not, try it with the short vowel sound. Can be used for two players, team play in class, or as a word sort.

Instead, they make the schwa sound of "uh". Some, love, and glove are a few of these. Practice these words after learning about Silent e with a worksheet, board game, and word search.
