About the store
"Supporting Reading Learners" was envisioned and created by Vicki Marvy and Diane Craig. We are retired elementary/reading teachers & literacy coaches. We train tutors & families with our new book called Tips For Reading Tutors, downloadable on this site. We also tutor students of many ages. Our experience showed us that "it takes a team to raise a reader", and that teachers desire easy-to-access quality reading practice materials for their students, tutors, families, aides, and volunteers. So we specifically designed our "Poems & Passages for Reading Practice" to supplement any reading program. These four-page packets are perfect for practice at mid-first to late-third grade reading levels, along with engaging activities aligned with the Science of Reading (phonics, phonemic awareness, comprehension, fluency and vocabulary).

Experience

Teaching style
We firmly believe that novice readers of all ages will accelerate their learning by participating in a 1:1 interaction with a tutor/reader (parent, aide, family member, volunteer), complete with conversation and engaging activities around reading passages and poems. Our materials support the opportunity for reading learners of all ages to get the positive, fun, personal attention they need, using our materials, to become competent "meaning-making" readers.
Awards & shining teacher moments
In 2026, we began training volunteer tutors and parents with our new book, Tips for Reading Tutors: Supporting Reading Learners. We received many thanks for demonstrating the activities in our book presentation, which is available as a download on this site, and also in paperback online. We also used our reading practice packets from this site during the Tips for Reading Tutors presentation. We are excited to continue supporting families, aides and tutors throughout the world.
My own education history
Between the two of us, we have degrees in Elementary Education, Reading, Special Education, and Psychology.
Additional biographical information
Vicki Marvy was a highly successful district literacy coach in an urban school district with a diverse population of students. She worked hard to help teachers use best practices for reading instruction at the elementary level. Vicki tutors elementary students. Diane Craig is a consultant with an educational book publisher. She provides leveling, editing and content support. Diane tutors a diverse group of students in reading and math, and has published a children's picture book. In 2026, they began training volunteer tutors and parents with their new book, "Tips for Reading Tutors: Supporting Reading Learners", which is downloadable in Teachers Pay Teachers and as a paperback online.
