This is our Science class constellation project. It explains that students must create their own constellation artwork AND create their own myth that explains how the constellation was formed. There are points for neatness, creativity, artwork, and being on time.
This is a worksheet of questions I made up that goes along with Bill Nye's "Sound" episode. The questions are in order of the 22min episode. The answer key is on the 2nd page of the document. This can also be used in a music lesson.
This is a worksheet I created for our light unit in Science. Groups of students observe a regular spoon. They need to decide which way creates a concave shape and which side is convex. The bottom of the worksheet is used with transparent prisms. They hold the prisms up to the light and must explain why they see different colors. I included the text book page number in the directions, but you can just delete that. An answer key is included.
This is a hands-on activity/experiment to an introduction to gravity. I use this in my space unit for Science. It's only 3 materials so it's very convenient and the kids just love it. I wrote the instructions in a step-by-step format so the students can either do it independently or in groups. (I do groups of 5.) Or you can read the steps aloud and walk them through it to differentiate. There are 2 open-response questions for students to answer. I also take pictures of them doing it for the par
This is a powerpoint I created for Science. It's for our light unit. It briefly introduces the colors of the rainbow and how light is reflected, absorbed or refracted. There are animations and sound effects!
This is one of my pride & joy lessons! I had to submit this for a district-tech grade for first year teachers. It's a powerpoint I made for my class as an introduction to our sound unit. I added some quick animations, video clips and obviously sounds for the visual & auditory learners too. It's a great mini lesson for Science class. As they watch the show, the kids have packets made up where they can write their answers, or you can just have them write in a notebook. It can also be used for any
This is a quiz/assessment I made on our class read aloud, The Neverending Story. It's on the first 8 chapters of the text, with 24 questions. The answers are highlighted in blue.
This is from the new common core math which addresses exponents. I made a few worksheets that have the students practice them in standard, expanded and exponential form with an example for each. Please see my other exponent worksheets.
This is a powerpoint I made for my class about the moon phases. I added some quick animations and sounds for the visual & auditory learners too. It's a great mini lesson for our sun, moon, & Earth unit. The kids shade in a worksheet with 9 circles to represent the moon phases as they watch the show. It can also be used for any space lessons. I have packets made up for them to write their answers down as they view the show. It does require Quicktime.
This is a word doc I made up for a quick DOL assignment. It has 4 short paragraphs for students to edit. They need to correct capital/lowercase letters, punctuation, and spelling.
Students must read a just right book for at least 20 minutes. Next, they have their reading log signed. After that, they choose 1 of the 16 prompts or questions to answer. These reading comprehension strategies range from making connections, predicting, inferring, determining the most important event, what the lesson learned was, how characters have changed, and so on. Students must be specific and use examples from the text they're reading. My students have made tremendous growth in reading bec
10 statements: Students must write whether the connection is a TT (text-to-text), TS (text-to-self), or TW (text-to-world). This is great practice for making connections and allows the teacher to see which students are struggling with what kinds of connections. Once the students complete this worksheet, I have them read a just-right book and write down each type of connection in a notebook as they read.

This is a powerpoint I made for our Earth, sun & moon unit in Science. It has slide transitions, sound effects & photographs. I also included correlating questions on the last slide that you can copy and paste into a word document so the students have to pay attention to what they're reading in the slideshow. There's an answer key in bold for the teacher. Yes, the questions go in order :-)
This is a chart I made in Excel for our light unit in Science. Students need to think about the 7 colors of the rainbow and determine which colors in the American flag are absorbed and which are reflected. Then they must explain what it means if a color of light is reflected/absorbed.
This is a worksheet with statements on it. There are blanks in each statement and students must determine whether the word is there, they're or their. It's great grammar practice, and has really helped my students.
This is a small activity I used in our sound unit for Science. We read a little about Alexander Graham Bell. The students had to write what they thought was interesting about him in one phone, then draw a picture in another phone. They colored them and I hung them on our bulletin board.
This quiz was given to my 5th grade Science class on light. It consists of true/false, fill in the blank, matching letters, and short answer/inferring. There's also a bonus "why is the sky blue" question.

A worksheet/study guide I made up for our light unit in Science. I played a trivia game with the kids and they had to search for the answers on these sheets in groups. This was also used as a study guide for their light quiz.
