Experience

I have taught for nine years in the upper-elementary world! I have also had the opportunity to teach a combo class of 4th/5th for two of those years! I was in charge of the Math Field Day team, on PBIS for almost my entire career, spear headed our debate team, and like so many of you, have taught online for a minute! I strive in making lessons objective-led and really honing in on the framework of standards.

Teaching style

I think teaching should be relevant, engaging, and FUN! Kids learn best when the lesson is cross-curricular, interesting, and tailored to their needs. When I taught a lesson on mapping, I made my entire classroom a grid and had students bring in box "houses" they made at home. We put them around the grid and created a "city". Students then were given a list of things they needed to do in the city that day. Coding, mapping, clarity in writing, reading; it was EVERYTHING! THIS is how I do teaching!

My own education history

I graduated high school from Chaffey High School (Go Tigers!) and went on to earn my Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies from California State University San Bernardino. I recently earned my first masters in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University, then loved it so much that I went back for another Masters in Communication with an emphasis in Education. Am now half way through my Doctorate, and am excited to have my foot back in the education world!
