This is a great project to reinforce scale drawing skills. Students get to choose a state or country flag of their choice and create a scale drawing of the flag. They are to calculate the area of each of the different colors and shape. I used this with both 7th and 8th graders and they really enjoyed this project. Display completed work around the room. A rubric is included for easy grading.

This activity is great for practicing and reviewing place values while learning their spelling words. There are 5 different color coded mats and a recording sheet. This will allow variety and more than one student working with these materials. This is great for centers and Daily 5 Word Work. I laminated my mats and made 5 copies of the recording sheet to laminate. This allows for durability and continued use. Students wrote their words and values in their spelling notebooks.
