About the store
This store has a variety of materials for teaching ELA; however, the emphasis is on writing at the middle school level. Most of my materials have a writing component to them, and many have scaffolding built in as well. My most popular products include: grade specific writing responses for reading standards in literature and information in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, grade 6 HMH Collections (older version, but some text selections are the same), a few in grade 7 for HMH, and grade 8. I also have many writing prompts, writing strategies, and back to school writing workshop materials to choose from. I have been creating curriculum for the classroom for over 29 years, and have been a teacher-author for TPT since 2015.

Hey Writing teachers! Trying to get students to write can be really challenging, but if we tell them to just write as fast as they can. If we tell them to JUST WRITE whatever is on their mind about a topic, and then set a timer to see how much they can accomplish, you and they will be amazed. This writing strategy does take practice. The first few times will be bumpy for some, especially your reluctant writers. However, if you let them choose their topic and tell them to write as if they were ta

This could be your first literature unit of the school year! With all the push for testing over the last several years, I've noticed that students are not given the opportunity to do choice reading in class. If we want to nurture readers, we need to allow them choice and time. So, I developed this unit for my students to use in their interactive notebooks this school year. This Common Core aligned unit can be used with any fictional book, including picture books, chapter books, novels, and grap

Teaching style

Writer's Workshop is my jam. Students LOVE self-expression, and I teach this through writer's workshop. Students want to improve their self-expression, so by teaching students to be better writers, I can encourage and engage them in reading to become better thinkers and writers. I employ lots of writing strategies and techniques. Online learning and flipped classroom using Canvas LMS and Microsoft Word or Google Apps are some of the ways I deliver instruction. Also, Interactive Notebooks help my students to keep organized and to value their progress through the course. I use a variety of learning activities including A/V, computer activities, interactive notebooks, group talk and center activities to keep students engaged in learning. I try to make learning accessible to all of my students, no matter what their academic readiness may be. I create engaging interactive notebook activities for TPT that I have used successfully with my students.
