I am using this when we read Ben Franklin of Old Philadelphia by Margaret Cousins, but it would be a great companion to the book Ben Franklin and the Magic Squares by Frank Murphy. Fun and quick math activity.

We've been working on sales tax and this activity is a fun and hands on way to bring that learning to reality. This is based on this week's ad (may 14-20), so some updates to the items listed in the chart may need to be made for other ads used. Have fun!

This activity I use when teaching making change. We have already learned to find the total cost of an item, so this is adding in the next layer. There are no directions printed on the paper, so you can decide if you want to have them make change in any form, or make change using the fewest dollars and coins. I hope this helps make your life easier. *These are actual items and costs. The sales tax varies for practice.
