This is a fun hands on project that helps commit the simple machines to memory. I send home a simple machine explanation sheet in case the parents need some help. :)
Use a small baggie of pretzel sticks and mini marshmallows to represent tens and ones to show group set model multiplication or partial product models to solve each problem. Please take a moment to rate my product. Thank you!
Materials I use for this activity usually include oil, salt, sugar, sand, glue, vinegar, and drink powder. However, you could use anything you want and have on hand. I have students describe the properties of each type of matter as they try to guess what each one is to reinforce property identification.
Please use these bookmarks to help organize your students in math groups and to help them keep track of their rotations. I would appreciate your ratings. Enjoy!
I have students work as a group using advertisements from a local grocery store to choose food items to plan a pretend picnic. They then look up their foods on a nutritional website for caoloric content. The winning teams are the ones with the lowest price and lowest calories.
My students love this matter activity and it is very memorable. Hint: The cheaper the vegetable oil the better and you can use a small squirt of food coloring gel if the liquid is not available.
Use these printables to help students practice comparing numbers within the ever so difficult chart format including questions with more than one answer.
