What’s your lens made of? is a lesson about perspective taking. Students will fill in their glasses with aspects that make them who they are- football player, big sister, only child, born in Peru, struggling reader… The idea is they think about what makes their lens unique to them and how that might change how they see the world vs someone else.
Adapted from the NYT "What's Going On in This Picture?" Students are shown a picture in 4 zoomed-in parts. They get one minute to jot down what they think is happening in the picture. They then share. The teacher asks, what made you think that? Then points out the part of the [picture that the student says made them think of their "happening".
