I am a primary school special education teacher in England, working with children with a range of special educational needs including Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
When working with a child with word finding difficulties it is important to link new words into the knowledge they already have of language. Put the word or a picture representing the word in the middle and work with the child to link this word to what they already know by filling in the shapes around the word.

Experience
I am a primary school special education teacher in England, working with children with a range of special educational needs including Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia.
Teaching style
I use lots of different strategies in my classroom - I try to use a multi sensory approach, lots of movement as advised by our occupational therapist and lots of sensory activities.
Awards & shining teacher moments
I once got a 'best teacher ever' mug from a child - best award I could get!
My own education history
I have a degree in Law and History, a PGCE teaching qualification, An Advanced Diploma in Applied Linguistics and a certificate in childhood studies. I also have a masters level qualification in Autism Studies.
Additional biographical information
I have a wonderful husband who I married in August 2014. He puts up with all my weird and wonderful ideas in teaching - it must be hard being married to a teacher! I can't count the amount of times I've made him do something strange with me - like collecting leaves from the garden for a science lesson!
