About the store
I have been teaching for 15 years in a somewhat large school district just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. Currently I am teaching sixth grade science at a middle school. I was a gifted intervention specialist for six glorious years in several elementary schools in the same district. I hope to return to gifted education in the future if the finances of the school district allow for the reinstatement of the gifted intervention specialist positions. I also have experience teaching social studies and I am currently working on a reading/language arts endorsement.

About the store

Experience

I have been teaching for 15 years in a somewhat large school district just outside of Cincinnati, Ohio. Currently I am teaching sixth grade science at a middle school. I was a gifted intervention specialist for six glorious years in several elementary schools in the same district. I hope to return to gifted education in the future if the finances of the school district allow for the reinstatement of the gifted intervention specialist positions. I also have experience teaching social studies and I am currently working on a reading/language arts endorsement.

Teaching style

My core belief is that students will learn a great deal more if they enjoy coming to my class. I set high expectations for student learning and behavior, but I also set high expectations for myself to make that learning engaging and valuable. My lessons tend to be activity centered with opportunities for critical thinking. I try to make my classroom flexible enough to investigate new learning possibilities. I love creative thinking, quotes, brain teasers, corny jokes and a student that steps up to a challenge.

Awards & shining teacher moments

I was awarded with the master teacher designation which is an advanced level educator license in Ohio.

My own education history

I earned my bachelors of education degree in middle school education at Northern Kentucky University with concentrations in science and social studies. A few years later I returned to NKU and earned a masters in middle grades education with an endorsement in gifted education. Since my masters I have taken courses at Miami University (Ohio), University of Cincinnati and Bowling Green State University. Recently I have been working on obtaining an English / Language Arts middle childhood endorsement.

Additional biographical information

I live in northern Kentucky with my wife, who is also a teacher. I like to cook, hike, garden and learn about personal finance. My wife and I both like to travel, make lists of fun things to do and do them, teach, spend time with family and friends, read and use google to answer odd questions.
