INTRO TO TAXONOMY- DOMAIN AND KINGDOMS

I like to introduce taxonomy early on while talking about prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Students can see how life is categorized into kingdoms depending on their cell characteristics as they get into comparing and contrasting different cell types. Both sides of this worksheet cover the same thing; however, students can quickly reflect on notes and find clear and concise information. Pair this with the "Identifying Kingdoms Using a Dichotomous Key- Dry Lab"

DNA vs RNA Card Sort- Pictures

Create stations, centers, or individualized interventions with this resource. This aid allows students to review the structure and function of RNA and DNA. This is a great formative assessment for students because the key is included. I highly recommend shrinking the key to 35% and placing it face-down next to students when they complete it. When they are done, they can flip it over and self-assess. I print and laminate mine so I can use them year after year. Included is just the visual card

Macromolecule Card Sort

Great engaging activity to introduce macromolecules to students. Allow students to explore terms before starting the unit, by grouping the terms into the correct category. I like to allow students to group the terms however they like, make students give me a rationale for why they put them in those groups, and then hand students the 4 header cards to re-group their terms. This forces students to think critically about each term and how they are related.
