I have now served as a public educator for 25 years! I've been a teacher (grades 6 - 12, all of them!), a Secondary Mathematics coach, an Assistant Principal, a department head, mentor and a PLC facilitator. I've been back in the classroom for six years making a difference on the "front line" again! I've seen standards and new teaching fads come and go, new testing requirements, new textbooks. I've experienced students before and after the COVID shut downs! Triangle Centers Search and Rescue Escape Activity
Use a Search and Rescue Activity to combine circumcenters, incenters and centroids! Students work collaboratively to find and rescue 2 missing high school students. There are three separate tasks (one with circumcenter, one with incenter and one with centroid)- each narrowing the search to a smaller area. Polygon Interior Angle Sum Discovery
Have students use previous knowledge (Triangle Angle Sum) to discover the Interior Angle Sum formula for any polygon! Get your students up and moving with this activity! Each student gets a card with a side length on it. They meet up with 2 others (maybe play music as they travel!). This is a collaborative activity where students use their knowledge of linear pairs to find exterior angle measures and then add them all up. Triangle Centers Break Out Activity
Review circumcenter, incenter and centroid with an exciting escape/break out activity. All you need is 5 locks (shown in down load). Can be used with break out boxes or you can buy locks and put one together! This increases collaboration, friendly competition (first group to open the final box wins!) while reviewing triangle centers. My students are always excited to work on escape type activities- the engagement goes through the roof!
