About the store
I have now served as a public educator for 25 years! I've been a teacher (grades 6 - 12, all of them!), a Secondary Mathematics coach, an Assistant Principal, a department head, mentor and a PLC facilitator. I've been back in the classroom for six years making a difference on the "front line" again! I've seen standards and new teaching fads come and go, new testing requirements, new textbooks. I've experienced students before and after the COVID shut downs! And still, I can say without a doubt that hands-on, discovery based learning with collaboration has stood the test of time and circumstances! Follow me to see what we do in my classroom!

Discovery Special Parallelogram Properties on the Coordinate Plane

Students discover properties of special parallelograms while reviewing distance formulas and slope relationships! Can easily be used as a collaborative discovery (that's how I use it! Idea for implementation included!). During COVID, I put a colored post-it note on individual desks to split up the tasks. So, even with desks in rows, collaboration can still be used!

Special Angle Relationships through Discovery and Collaboration

Teaching Special Angle Relationships through Discovery and Collaboration! The "special relationships" are: Vertical, Complementary, Supplementary and Linear Pairs. This product will take students through prior knowledge activation to refresh previously learned information about basic angles and complementary/supplementary angles (3 options) to a discovery lesson of the Vertical Angle Theorem. Once the Vertical Angle Theorem is discovered, students will engage in various levels of proces

Parallel Lines Cut By A Transversal (and Converse): Discovery Collaboration Unit

Teaching Parallel Lines Cut by a Transversal and their Converse Theorems has never been this easy! And this teaching through Discovery and Collaboration! This product will take students through prior knowledge activation (3 options) to a discovery lesson (one for parallel lines with angle relationships and one for the converse theorems). Once the theorems are discovered, students will engage in various levels of processing from numerical problem solving to using algebraic equations. Next,

Regular Polygon Graphic Organizer

One stop sheet for regular polygon facts when inscribing one into a circle. Identify the radii, central angles, apothem, circumscribed circle, the isosceles triangles within. Also, have them discover how to find the central angle measure and base angle measures. This could be whole group direct instruction or could be turned into a collaborative activity by infusing strategic questions linking prior knowledge along the way. VERSATILE!

Parallel Line Converse Theorems through Discovery and Collaboration

Teaching the Converse of the Parallel Line cut by a Transversal Theorems through Discovery and Collaboration! This product will take students through prior knowledge activation to a discovery lesson. Once the postulate is discovered, students will engage in various levels of processing from identifying converse theorems with if...then statements to using algebraic equations. Next, students will engage in an extension or challenge problem. Finally, use the "Exit Tickets" as a formative ass

Discover Parallelogram Properties using the Coordinate Plane

Have students discover properties of Parallelograms while reinforcing previous skills like finding slope, using the distance and midpoint formulas, and angle relationships with parallel lines cut by a transversal. This activity could be done individually or broken up into collaborative structure pieces (suggestion on second answer key).

Triangle Centers Search and Rescue Escape Activity

Use a Search and Rescue Activity to combine circumcenters, incenters and centroids! Students work collaboratively to find and rescue 2 missing high school students. There are three separate tasks (one with circumcenter, one with incenter and one with centroid)- each narrowing the search to a smaller area. Once the area is narrowed three times, then they can "deploy the Search and Rescue Team". Its a great way to review triangle centers AND have the students collaborate and problem solve! An
Preview of Polygon Interior Angle Sum Discovery

Polygon Interior Angle Sum Discovery

Have students use previous knowledge (Triangle Angle Sum) to discover the Interior Angle Sum formula for any polygon! Included are polygons (one per page) that can be copied and distributed one to each collaborative group of students OR individual students. This activity is VERY VERSATILE! Each group of students can contribute to the larger class discussion that leads the class to DISCOVERING the Interior Angle Sum formula.

Pythagorean Theorem Meet, Greet and Prove!

Get your students up and moving with this activity! Each student gets a card with a side length on it. They meet up with 2 others (maybe play music as they travel!). The trio records all 3 side lengths on their paper and uses the Pythagorean Theorem to prove whether or not their side lengths would make a right triangle. As an extension, have them predict what type of triangle their side lengths would make (if not a right triangle). The accompanying sheet allows for 4 rounds, but you could a
Preview of Polygon Exterior Angle Discovery

Polygon Exterior Angle Discovery

Have your students discovery that the Exterior Angle Sum of all polygons is 360ยบ! This is a collaborative activity where students use their knowledge of linear pairs to find exterior angle measures and then add them all up. They will soon discover that, no matter what polygon their group was given, the sum is always the same!
Preview of Discovery Altitudes and Orthocenters through Systems of Linear Equations

Discovery Altitudes and Orthocenters through Systems of Linear Equations

Have students discover Altitudes and Orthocenters while relying on prior knowledge! They will create lines on the coordinate plane that are perpendicular to each side of the triangle and write the linear equation for each line. They will PROVE the orthocenter is the point of concurrency of the altitudes by solving the system of linear equations they've created. Can be done individually, collaborative or whole group.

Flow Chart Proof with Equations

This versatile activity can be used to solidify equation knowledge, practice use of properties or the introduce proofs with equation prior knowledge. It can be used individually or with a cooperative group of students. Quickly create manipulatives by cutting out the steps of the equation and the properties- your tactile and kinesthetic students will love this!

Triangle Centers Break Out Activity

Review circumcenter, incenter and centroid with an exciting escape/break out activity. All you need is 5 locks (shown in down load). Can be used with break out boxes or you can buy locks and put one together! This increases collaboration, friendly competition (first group to open the final box wins!) while reviewing triangle centers. My students are always excited to work on escape type activities- the engagement goes through the roof!

Discovering Medians and Centroid through Midpoint Formula

Review the midpoint and distance formulas as your students discover segment relationships with medians and centroids! Great to do collaboratively- split midpoints and distances among groups or group members and have them share out/teach the class. Or, have them work on each individually. Very flexible!

The Power of Yet! (Growth Mindset reflections)

Start the year with a focus on Growth Mindset. This 2 page download has students reflecting on what they are good at and HOW they got that way. Then, asks them to reflect on something they have't mastered yet and HOW they can get there. This is where you can infuse your subject area. The second page offers several reflection opportunities towards mastering the goal. The possibilities for this document are many! You could start off the year with it and reflect each quarter. You could begin

Teaching style

It is my passion to facilitate a learning environment where students DISCOVER math content through hands-on activities, collaborative problem solving and building upon previous knowledge. I 100% believe that all students can learn math if we find the "right" method!

Awards & shining teacher moments

I have been honored as a member of Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Staff Spotlight in my School District, Professional Development creator and presenter in my school and throughout the district, and I have been nominated multiple times for Teacher of the Year.
