This packet contains several resources supporting the Empowering Writers program on Expository writing. You will find a valuable pre-writing tool for students to use and a mini poster of informative verbs to support students in forming a great expository writing piece.

The three R’s is a math procedure to be used in problem solving. This protocol engages students to create a deeper understanding of the problem and relate it more to a real-world situation. Encouraging students to verbalize their thinking, create their thinking using manipulatives, and reason through their thinking deepens understanding in problem solving. This activity supports Unit 8 in First Grade investigations but can be adapted to be used in K or 2. Since measurement is covered around this time of year, using Easter egg candies are fun to incorporate. You can also use Swedish fish candies to go along with the "measuring fish" lessons in Unit 8.
