9th year teacher---I've taught 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th grades. I am currently teaching 5th ELA using the Guidebooks curriculum and the writing revolution for grammar.
This test can be used along with the engage NY curriculum. The first few tests go along with the speaking & listening portion of the curriculum; this one is on the fable "The Maid and the Milkpail". This is the first reading test I give of the year, usually on week 2.
This test was given in the 2nd nine weeks...open read test means the students were never exposed to this story before the test and they still were expected to read it on their own! (The story can be found on the engage NY website for free)
Use with lesson 4 in the Rumpelstiltskin Unit of guidebooks. Write sentence frame on lines before making copies: it should say "Both stories have characters that _______________."
Grade 1 Reading Test: including comprehension questions, vocabulary with fill in the blank, and phonics skills. You can find the story on engageny.org for free
Follow the curriculum, and this would be test 2 to give. I usually alternate reading tests every other or week. This test is now when the students should have began reading the Beth reader.
