This power point uses graphic organizers to help students determine fiction from non-fiction. For fiction selections I use a story map graphic organizer. For non-fiction I use a main idea and details web. This power point shows the students how to use these graphic organizers to help them determine fiction from non fiction.
This power point is 16 pages long and should take half an hour to go through it. It should be the main lesson.
1st - 4th
English Language Arts, Informational Text, Reading Strategies
This is an eight page flipchart that is interactive. It teaches how to sequence directions, stories, and to use time order words. It is only 8 pages, but the activity will take 20-30 minutes.
This is a 9 page flipchart. It should take 20-30 minutes to teach. It is interactive, students come to the board. This flipchart covers Author's purpose. It contains 3 teaching pages, 3 examples pages, Author's purpose sort, and a 2 questions quiz.
This flip chart is interactive for students to learn and practice foundational skills. There are 5 pages for silent e, soft and hard sounds of c, soft and hard sounds of g, sounds of ar and or, and finally sounds of ir, ur, and er. This is perfect to teach from and give the students practice right then. Later they could go to centers and continue practice.
This is a 12 page flipchart that is interactive with students. There is practice with graphic organizer to sequence story. The students practice sequencing with things they already know about, making a sandwich. Then they read a story, identify time order words, and finally sequence events into a graphic organizer. This should take approximately half an hour.
The students will make their own flash cards and can sort them when they have extra time. They can continue to add to this center. The teacher doesn't really have any work to do other than making the sorting sheet. The students will pick their word, find out it's part of speech and meaning and they can keep this in their brain bins to take out and add to or sort whenever they want to.
