Give your students a fun and tasty activity while learning the physics of color theory! Stage Lighting Design affects pigments of color in costume and scenery, and occasionally makeup and props. If you aren't ready for your theatre students to use power tools to build quite yet, here is a nice introduction to measuring and cutting lumber. The end result will be students making a mini 4 inch by 8 inch theatre flat. (Real life flats are traditionally 4ft by 8 ft.) Print the handout exactly or else the measurements will be slightly off. You can test this out by printing and measuring the large rectangle plywood piece, which should be 4 inches by 8 inches. You can find the exact steps and

We all go to the stores and look for our size shirt, pants, and shoes, but most people don't know how these measurements are decided and how to take clothing measurements. Using a printed paper or a plastic tape measurer, and with descriptions of how to take different measurements, partners will measure each other's body. I suggest you let the students have the opportunity to skip certain measurements for body issues, or for being uncomfortable with others in close proximity. Find this activit

And schools will love it as you integrate math and keeping budgets. This activity can be done on the computer in small groups or individually, or even MORE EXCITING... actually take them on a field trip to a local hardware store to physically see the items they are learning about.
