Teaching style

One of the most useful things I learned as a first year teacher came from my principal and I have adopted it a one of my leading philosophies; if you provide students with a smorgasbord to chose from, they will feast on what they want. If you don't, they will feast on you! Providing voice and choice in learning enables students to connect their learning to their specific interests and all but eliminates unwanted classroom behaviors. Additionally, providing voice and choice and a clear pathway to success frees the teacher to focus on differentiation. Also, by planning and executing, data driven, engaging lessons, students will not only advance in their skills, but be motivated learners. All students come to school with talents that need to be celebrated and respected. When students feel they belong, through kind and respectful interactions, they will succeed.
