Experience

I have over a decade of teaching experience with all levels of high school English. However, the bulk of my experience has been working with EOC (end of course) tested grade levels (9th and 10th) serving as a teacher of multiple levels and team lead.

Teaching style

Ultimately my goal is to create independent learners and thinkers. I try to follow a scaffolded model of teaching ("I do"-whole class modeling, "we do"-group or paired work, "you do"-independent practice). I believe in rigor, but try to make things interesting and engaging for students, by providing choice whenever possible. All lesson, activities, and assignments are connected to the state skills of TEKS in Texas, but would easily fit standards based skills and mastery learning for other areas. My tests or quizzes tend to be aligned to the TEXAS STAAR test, or more recently the STAAR 2.0 but could easily be adapted to the testing style of another state if needed. I am detailed oriented, and want my assignments and directions to be clear enough that a student can figure out what to do on their own from home using a learning platform like Schoology, Canvas, or Google Classroom.
