This includes a document that can be copied front to back to provide a 1/2 page reference sheet of all the derivative and integral rules for AP Calculus AB and BC. If you print it 2 pages to one, you can create bookmarks (use cardstock) for students to use in their interactive journals. My students liked the bookmarks and liked that they could pull it out as needed. This also contains 7 "formula" quizzes. They are the same exact formulas with the right-hand column blank - they are just mixed up

Calculus Part 1 Notes (From Attributes of Functions to Finding Limits)

This includes five note sheets (formatted so they work as part of an interactive notebook), one graphic organizer, and the slides that have all of the videos for all of these - and the rest of the year of calculus.
Preview of Algebra Vocabulary Symbol Concept Match

Algebra Vocabulary Symbol Concept Match

This is a three-way matching activity. It includes 42 vocabulary, concepts, and symbols used in algebra classes. Each match will consist of a term/phrase/symbol, a verbal description, and the item in action - how it might be seen in a math classroom. Different combinations of cards can be used at different points in the year (a few cards for a warm-up, a unit's worth of cards, or a year-end review). This is best taken on by a small group of students or as an extension activity. This includes a

Function, First and Second Derivative Graph Match / Card Sort

This three-way match/card sort/puzzle connects facts about the original function to graphs of the first and second derivatives. My students started at the graph of the first derivative and then worked forwards and backwards to the second derivative and original function. This CAN be done when they first learn about derivatives before they learn about antiderivatives - it helps them make connections early. My students put their matches in their interactive notebooks.
Preview of Connecting the Discriminant, Factors, Graphs of Quadratic Functions Matching

Connecting the Discriminant, Factors, Graphs of Quadratic Functions Matching

For this activity/card sort/matching, students will connect (no calculator required), the value of the discriminant, the equation, conclusions about the factors and concavity, and the graph of the function.
Preview of Linear Functions Matching Graphs to Equations Mixed Review

Linear Functions Matching Graphs to Equations Mixed Review

This has the student identify the attributes of the function given by the form of the equation (slope and intercept, intercepts from standard, point and slope, etc.) . They will then match their information to given graphs. When complete, they will match the graphs to another form of the equation (that could be simplified or changed in some way).

Graphing Linear Inequalities and Systems of Inequalities Bundle

This contains the notes (for multiple days) and three practice assignments. It also includes a bonus mixed review practice.
Preview of Rational Functions: Discontinuities, Asymptotes, and Intercepts

Rational Functions: Discontinuities, Asymptotes, and Intercepts

This assignment focuses on connecting zeros from the numerator and denominator to different attributes of rational functions: removable discontinuities, vertical asymptotes, and x-intercepts. It also asks for the y-intercepts. The students will then match their results to given graphs, give the domain and write the equation of any horizontal asymptote they see. The last two problems give the student the attributes and asks them to write the equation.

Preview of Writing Linear Equations from Tables Assignment

Writing Linear Equations from Tables Assignment

This assignment has students examine tables, determine the slope, find the y-intercept, and write the equation of the function represented in y-intercept form. There is an answer bank for the slopes and intercepts.
Preview of Evaluating Functions, Function Notation, Multiple Representations Matching

Evaluating Functions, Function Notation, Multiple Representations Matching

This activity gives the students four different functions (each a different representation). The students will then match a function value (using function notation) with the answer. The four functions could be displayed for the class and the matching cards given to individual students, pairs, or small groups. (This could be a pre-assessment if given to a small group to see what they can figure out.)
Preview of Composition of Functions Multiple Representations: Quick Matching Activity

Composition of Functions Multiple Representations: Quick Matching Activity

This activity gives the students four different functions - each with a different representation. They will then match evaluating different compositions with the answers. The four functions could be displayed for the class and small groups/pairs/individuals given the cards.

Experience

Hello! I am a long-time creator and educator - for my own students and the teachers I work with. I have taught in public high schools in Texas since the last century. I have taught every math course Texas offers with the exception of Statistics - most of my years were spent in Algebra and AP and Dual Credit Calculus classrooms. Alongside teaching, I have served as an instructional dean for math and science in two different high schools. I have to modify almost everything I have made before I put it up here, so check back often. It is likely that notes and practice assignments will appear first, but I will get to the activities and conversation starters.

Teaching style

I believe in students knowing why things work so they don't need a "trick" to remember. I believe they learn more when they talk to each other about the mathematics - how else will they ever see that there is another way? For my work with calculus and calculus students, I keep a focus on them being able to quickly and correctly justify their answers, which you will see throughout the notes and assignments. I also do not think you can "cram" for an AP test, so you will see reviews of previous topics on assignments. It's important to note that antiderivatives are taught right after derivatives - not the next semester. It allows for more depth to problems AND more time for the students to sort out what they should be doing before the AP test at the end of the year.

My own education history

I have my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Master of Education in Mathematics Education from the University of Texas at Austin.
