Experience

Hi, I'm Sarah Schwendenman (known as "Mrs. S." to my students), and I am a veteran teacher with over 26 years of experience teaching both general education and special education. I am currently loving life in an amazing school in rural Indiana, where I have the privilege of teaching students in grades K-4 in a pull-out special education classroom. Teaching style

I believe that students will not learn until they feel safe and comfortable, so I strive to create an environment that fosters student confidence. This is crucial for my special education students, especially, who often lack confidence in themselves. My classroom is based on rigorous, hands-on, fun activities that students ask for again and again!

Awards & shining teacher moments

Best award ever--having students come back after years have gone by to have them say, "You were the best teacher EVER!" Sweet rewards!!

My own education history

I earned my BS of Elementary Education for Indiana University East in 1999, with a middle school Social Studies endorsement. Since then, I've added endorsements in Teaching Reading K-12 and the Early Literacy endorsement. In 2020, I followed my heart and earned my Master of Education degree in Special Education from Western Governor's University.

Additional biographical information

I live in rural southeast Indiana on a farm with my husband, kids, dogs, cats, and cattle! We are crazy busy--and just plain crazy sometimes--but I wouldn't have it any other way! I am blessed to teach in a school I LOVE! Blessed beyond measure! Life is GOOD!
